Brahmapur,(Sudip Kumar Sahu):The two-day visit of the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, to Ganjam district commenced on Tuesday morning. The Hon’ble President arrived at Platform No. 4 of Berhampur Railway Station at 11:10 a.m.
The Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, extended a warm and grand welcome to the Hon’ble President upon her arrival at the railway station.
On the occasion, Shri Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister for Commerce & Transport, Steel & Mines; Shri Gokulananda Mallik, Minister for Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises; Berhampur MP Shri Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy; Berhampur MLA Shri K. Anil Kumar; Southern Revenue Divisional Commissioner Shri Sangram Keshari Mahapatra; Southern Range Inspector General of Police Shri Niti Sekhar; Ganjam Collector Shri V. Keerthi Vasan; Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dr. Saravana Vivek M.; along with senior civil and police officials, were present to receive and welcome the Hon’ble President.
In view of the Hon’ble President’s visit, elaborate security arrangements, attractive decorations and special cleanliness measures had been put in place at Brahmapur Railway Station.
Reflecting Ganjam’s rich cultural heritage, the Hon’ble President was accorded a colourful traditional welcome with captivating performances of the famed Tiger Dance, Sankirtan, other traditional folk dances and the auspicious sound of conch shells. The Hon’ble President interacted cordially with the folk artistes, appreciated their performances and posed for photographs with them, encouraging the artistes.
A large number of citizens and school students assembled at the railway station carrying the National Flag and welcome placards to greet the Hon’ble President. She graciously acknowledged their greetings by waving to the gathering.
After a brief halt at Brahmapur Railway Station, the Hon’ble President proceeded to Taptapani. The Hon’ble Governor and the Hon’ble Chief Minister also accompanied her to Taptapani. Throughout the route, large numbers of people, including children, women, senior citizens and students, lined both sides of the road holding the National Flag and welcome placards to greet the Hon’ble President.
At Meenakshi Nagar in Brahmapur city, the Hon’ble President was touched by the enthusiasm and excitement of young children who had gathered to catch a glimpse of her. In a warm and affectionate gesture, she alighted from her vehicle and distributed chocolates to the children, much to their delight, creating memorable moments for the gathering.
