Paralakhemundi,(Tarini Prasad Panda): With Cyclone Arnab-triggered heavy rains causing landslides, road blockages and communication disruptions across Gajapati district, Additional Secretary to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Siddhartha Shankar Acharya visited the affected areas on Friday and reviewed the ground situation and ongoing relief measures.
On the direction of the SRC, Acharya toured several rain-hit areas of Mohana, R. Udayagiri, Nuagada and Rayagada blocks, particularly locations where landslides had brought down soil and huge boulders from hill slopes onto roads. He took stock of road connectivity, public safety, rescue and evacuation operations and relief arrangements.
The Additional Secretary interacted with local officials and reviewed the measures being undertaken to restore communication and ensure the safety of people in vulnerable areas. He will submit a detailed report on the situation to the Special Relief Commissioner.
Additional District Magistrate Munindra Honnaga, District Emergency Officer Binayak Raul, BDOs, tehsildars and officials from various departments accompanied Acharya during the inspection.
