Rayagada: A 9-year-old boy tragically lost his life allegedly due to the non-availability of blood at the Odisha Blood Bank in Rayagada district headquarters hospital.The minor boy, Rajiv Takiri, was admitted to the district headquarters hospital with fever and was prescribed a blood transfusion after his blood test revealed low hemoglobin levels.
According to reports, the boy’s family approached the blood bank, but the staff reportedly refused to provide blood despite repeated requests.The family alleged that they were turned away without assistance, and the minor’s condition worsened. It was only the next morning, after a donor came forward, that blood was donated, but unfortunately, the child succumbed to his condition during the transfusion process.The incident sparked protests in front of the blood bank as the family members staged protests demanding compensation. The Rayagada police station IIC, along with the doctor and blood bank in-charge, intervened and assured a thorough investigation and strict action against those found guilty. Following assurance, the protest was called off.The blood bank in-charge has promised a thorough investigation into the incident and strict action against anyone found responsible.
