The captive Elephant Bhawani was procured from Karnataka Forest Department in November, 2001 for protection and tourism work in Similipal. Bhabani gave birth to Rajkumar (male) and Shibani (female) on 20.10.2002 and 14.12.2008 respectively. Bhabani was initially stationed at Gudgudia Elephant camp along with other Captive Elephants of Similipal. Later she was shifted and stationed at Hatighar Elephant Camp at Jenabil. Bhabani was retired from service as she had crossed 60 years of age in the year 2018. Because of old age her molar teeth were worn out and also her digestive system was not functioning well in the past one year. She was fed with cooked concentrate feed mixture, boiled vegetables and multi-vitamin and calcium supplements. Her digestive system deteriorated gradually and she died today morning i.e dt. 28.01.2025 at 06.08 AM. She was under constant observation by VAS, STR.
