Padmapur:A 52 year old man was beaten to death on suspecion of sorcery practioner in Padmapur town of Rayagada district.The victim has been identified as Bhairab Sahu from Hatapada street.Sources said,recently a man in the street died at young age in a suspecious state.Before death he reportedly claimed himself was under the clutch of sorcerer.Sahu with his family in the village,was a known kali worshiper and the villagers suspected him as the reason for the death of the villager.Last night the residents convened a meeting and dragged Sahu from his house to the place.The kangaroo court also declared Sahu as the culprits.Before Sahu pleaded his innocence,a group of attacked him with sticks and wood planks.The attackers were so furious that,they even continued hitting and kicking Sahu on the ground.However ohter s in the town has informed the police about the kangaroo court.Soon Padmapur,IIC,Dharanidhar Pradhan with his staffs arrived at the scene to rescue Sahu.But the irate residents,attacked the police and vandalised the police vehicle,what has led to a law and order situation.As the IIC received injuries on head,the police team took him to Padmapur hospital.Meanwhile receiving the information,Gunupur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Babuli Nayak with armed police force reached the street.But by the time Sahu was lying motionless on the ground,being beaten by the irate residents.Sahu was rescued and taken to Padmapur hospital,where doctors declared him brought dead.Today morning Rayagada ASP,Amulya dhar with three platoon armed police reached the place.Police have detained 28 people,including seven minors in connection with the incident. Investigation continued and the situation under control said police.In the past,a similar killing took place in nearby village Jumuruguda where a woman was killed on the suspecion of sorcery practioner and a case was registered against over one hundred villagers.
