Chhatrapur:As announced earlier,civil defence mock drills were conducted in three coastal areas in Ganjam district today at 4 PM.These drills involved activating air-raid warning sirens and training civilians in civil defence measures to protect themselves during a ‘hostile attack’.The drills started with the first siren and concluded after the second siren sounded.The sirens sounded in 3 places at Gopalppur -on-sea,OSCOM and Gopalpur port.Police,fire brigade,NCC,scouts and volunteers teams practiced responding to war scenarios,bomb blasts and fire incidents.Around two hours before the siren,while the NCC,Scout cadets were kept ready to participate in the rescue operation,police,fire brigade and Defence officials made the public aware about the precautionary measures needed during attack.The entire Gopalpur beach was vacated.
Similarly,the police,fire brigade with the staffs of OSCOM and Gopalppur port participated in the mock drill.The drills aimed to prepare people to defend themselves in emergency situations and understand the response mechanisms said Berhampur SP,Dr Saravana Vivek M adding that this mock drill is a practice of how the rescue team will rescue people in trouble.He said,the Gopalpur beach was vacated as,it’s a air strike Safety drill,so no person was supposed to be outdoor and all are supposed to be indoors under a Pucca roof.Public at large were alerted about the mock drill well in advance and as expected People moved from open area to their houses.This is a preparatory and awareness drill to make public become alert and safe during an emergency air raid situation,the SP said.Civil Defence and Police did the exercise togetherMeanwhile th people across Ganjam,particularly in rural areas celebrated the Sindoor operation by hailing the action by Indian defence under the able guidance of prime minister Narendra modi.While the BJP activists distribuuted sweets,the leaders across political party affiliation has hailed the operation.
