Berhampur:To provide drinking water to the thirsty people,water kiosks,have been opened in the silk city by the BeMC by spending a huge amount.These kiosks supposed to offer clean drinking water,due to heatwave conditions increase the need for water.The kiosks has been entrusted to slef help groups,but due to lack of supervision,many kiosks found without water.Similarly for the domestic animals the BeMC claimed to have placed water pitchers in each wards,which too have no water.Though no authority was available for comment,but BeMC office sources said in each ward 3 water kiosks has been opened.Meanwhile,BJP leader and senior advocate Pitabasa panda blamed the BeMC authorities for their callous attitude in providing water to people.He alleged a large scale misappropriation of funds and urged the state urban development to initiate necessary action.Panda said not only this year,also large scale irregularties in water kiosks noticed in the previous years.Citing the RTI information obtained from BeMC,Panda said last yer the BeMC spent around Rs 23.86 lakhs for 53 water kiosks and this year the kiosk number doubled.Expressing his dismay over spending of such huge amount by BeMC,Panda said when water filters of 40 liter capacity available in market at Rs 40 thousand only,the amount spent regularly every year could have solved had the BeMC installed water filters permanantly by spending the amount.Describing the act of BeMC whimscial,he demanded to stop misusing the public fund.
