On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister of India, Dr. Chaudhary Charan Singh, National Farmers’ Day was celebrated by the Department of Agronomy and Agroforestry, M. S. Swaminathan School of Agriculture, Centurion University, Parlakhemundi on today.Along with this program, the agriculture students, faculty and staff of the university organized an awareness procession highlighting the role of farmers in the society. More than 50 farmers from the nearby villages participated in this programme. The program was inaugurated by the Dean, M. S. Swaminathan School of Agriculture, Professor Sagar Maitra and Head of the Department of Agronomy and Agroforestry, Dr. Tanmay Shankar. Senior faculty members of the university, including Professor Supradeep Sarkar, Professor Y. Nanja Reddy and Professor B. Chakrapani, participated in the event and discussed the problems faced by the farmers in the agricultural sector and their solutions. On this occasion, a debate competition was organized and the winners were awarded prizes and certificates. The farmers were felicitated by distributing dragon fruit saplings, vermicompost, sea weed extract and bottle gourd seeds etc. Finally, the program was concluded with a primary health check-up of the farmers.
