Binjharpur,(Pradeep Kumar Mallick): A one-day Women’s Empowerment Awareness Programme and a six-day Self-Defence Training Camp were successfully organized under the auspices of the “Shaktishree Empowerment Cell” at Lachhman Balajiu Degree College, Angalo, in Jajpur district.
The Women’s Empowerment Awareness Programme was held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, on the college campus under the chairmanship of Principal Jayadev Thatoi. Social worker Padmakar Guru attended the programme as the Chief Speaker, while Pramod Kumar Ray, Principal of Lachhman Balajiu Higher Secondary School, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Guest Speakers included Madan Mohan Parida, Head of the Department of Odia, and Alok Kumar Samal, Head of the Department of Odia at Lachhman Balajiu Higher Secondary School. Shubhashree Samal, Coordinator of the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell and Head of the Department of Mathematics, also actively participated in the programme.
During their addresses, the speakers highlighted the objectives of the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell, emphasizing that women’s empowerment, gender equality, safety, self-confidence, and social awareness are among the most essential needs of the present time. They stated that empowering every woman through education, self-reliance, and self-defence is a collective responsibility of society. They further emphasized that awareness is the first step toward building a safe and respectful society.
The programme was conducted by Bharat Chandra Behera, Head of the Department of Political Science, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Bhaba Ranjan Samal, Head of the Department of Physics. The programme was successfully organized with the cooperation of all faculty members and staff of the college.
Subsequently, a six-day Self-Defence Training Camp was organized from July 22 to July 27, 2026, in which the girl students of the college participated enthusiastically. The trainers imparted practical training on various self-defence techniques, methods of ensuring personal safety during emergencies, physical fitness, mental strength, and confidence building. Each day included warm-up sessions, physical exercises, basic self-defence techniques, and practical demonstrations.
The training programme significantly enhanced the students’ courage, confidence, discipline, and awareness. A valedictory function was held on the concluding day, and the entire training programme proved to be highly educational, practical, and inspiring for the participants. The self-defence training camp was conducted smoothly under the supervision of self-defence instructor Sunita Das.
