Nayagarh,15th Jan. Panic gripped the residents in villages near Gumi forest section of Mahipur forest range in Nayagarh district,following leopard attack on two villagers.The incident took place on tuesday in two separate nearby villages.Sources said,one Promod guru(51) of Karachuli village,a cow grazzer while was returning to his village,a leopard attacked him.Hearing his screams,when the co-villagers reached the spot,the leopard vanished.With deep cuts on his body,Promod was immediately taken to DHH at Nayagarh.After some time,a similar second incident took place in Sudungi village.The victim identified as Saju nayak(49),while was standing near his house in the village,the leopard attacked him,but fled from the spot when others reached there hearing screams of Saju.Soon Saju admiited to DHH at Nayagarh.On being informed forest staffs reached the spot.During inspection of both the villages,they found pug marks,likely of a leopard.Since both the incidents took place in a little time difference,the attacker leopard,suspectedly to be the one.Nayagarh DFO,P.Sadangi has advised the villagers to remain alert and not to venture to the nearby forests.
