Chatrapur,(YNS): To honor the invaluable contributions, experience, and profound wisdom of the senior citizens of the district, the Ganjam District Administration is going to observe “Senior Citizens Week” from 13th to 19th February. Its conclusion will be on 20th February 2026, coinciding with the celebration of World Social Justice Day.
Senior citizens are a living repository of our society’s invaluable experiences, rich culture, and ethical values. Their contribution to the family, society, and nation-building is immeasurable. The purpose of this week-long observance is not only to honor them but also to create widespread awareness about their legitimate rights, dignity, health security, and government schemes and arrangements intended for their welfare. This initiative will help empower senior citizens to lead a safe, dignified, and meaningful life.
During this week, various programs will be organized at different locations across the district, which will help strengthen relationships across generations and ensure participation and coordination among all sections of society.
District Program Schedule:
• 16th February, 3:00 PM – At Bhanjanagar Block Conference Hall, a Poetry Recitation Festival will be organized, serving as a beautiful platform for literary and creative expression.
• 17th February, 3:00 PM – At Brahmapur Municipal Corporation Conference Hall, a Seminar and Interface Session will be conducted, where various issues related to senior citizens will be discussed and exchanged.
• 18th February, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM – Free health check-up camps will be organized at all Primary Health Centers, Community Health Centers, Sub-Divisional Hospitals, and the District Headquarters Hospital in the district, emphasizing the health security of senior citizens.
• 16th February, 11:00 AM – At Chatrapur Science College, a college-level creative literary competition will be held to promote respect and sensitivity towards senior citizens among the younger generation. On the same day and time, competitions will also be held at higher secondary and primary school levels under the supervision of the District Education Officer, Ganjam, at designated locations.
• 19th February, 11:00 AM – At Chatrapur Indoor Stadium, entertainment-oriented sports activities will be organized for senior citizens.
• 20th February, 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM – A yoga program will be conducted at Chatrapur Yoga Stadium.
• 20th February, 11:00 AM – At Rishikulya Conference Hall, Chatrapur, awareness programs will be conducted on digital literacy, financial literacy, and the “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act”.
The week-long observance will conclude at Rishikulya Conference Hall, Chatrapur, with a district-level celebration in the presence of distinguished guests, where winners of different competitions will be felicitated.
The district administration appeals to all senior citizens, educational institutions, voluntary organizations, and the general public to actively participate in this important initiative. Let us all join together to create a compassionate, sensitive, and beautiful society for senior citizen.
