Malappuram: Both students and teachers at the MSTM Arts and Science College in Pooppalam, Kerala, were in a celebratory mood, even during the BA final year exams, on Friday. The reason: There was a bride amongst them.P Shahala Sherin, a BA English final year student of the College, was to get married on that day. It was at the last moment she came to know that the exams had been rescheduled. She had no option. She rushed to the College dressed in her bridal attire, accompanied by Rahnaas, her groom-to-be and other relatives. She received a grand welcome at the venue and left after writing her paper.Such things are not uncommon, at least in Kerala. In 2023, a video was shared on social media of a girl in bridal attire, with a lab coat on and a stethoscope around her neck.Shree Lekshmi Anil, a student of the Bethany Navajeevan College of Physiotherapy had rushed to the institute for her practical exam, directly from her marriage venue. The video showed fellow students adjusting the pleats of her sari, while some others helped her put on the lab coat and placed the stethoscope around the neck. The video also showed the bride-to-be studying in the car on her way to the college. While this may seem humorous to many, it also reflects the zeal among women in Kerala to pursue their studies. Something that women across the country can take a lesson from.
