Chhatrapur:Aryapalli marine police in Ganjam district today has arrested a 40 year old man for posing as a doctor and providing medical diagnosis to gullible patients without necessary qualification.The accused is identified as Prasannajeet sarkar of Bishnupur village in 24 pragana of West bengal. Police seized medical equipment and certificates, believed to be forged, from Anil’s clinic.Sources said,Sarkar opened a clinic at Gandhi chowk of Sanaaryapalli village.Police were informed that Sarkar was pretending to be a doctor and treating patients at the clinic.Even he conducted minor operations and administering injections.While some pateients got cured,ailment of some not responded. However, Sarkar used to collect hafty fees from the patients.He was also selling medicines to patients there.
To verify the claims,a police team led by Marine PS,IIC Bidya bharati nayak reached Sarkar’s clinic.By the time Sarkar was examining a patient with stetho,when the IIC asked Sarkar to show his credentials,he failed to produce any document.During interrogation,Sarkar brokedown and admitted that he had no authority or licence to practice medicine and was posing as a doctor since many years and treating patients.Sarkar confessed that after failed in standard 8th,he left his home and reached Madhya pradesh and worked there in a clinic owned by a bengali doctor.Later in 2021,he came to Aryapally and opened the clinic.He even prepared a Aadhar card,Voter I card,by whose virtue claimed himself as a local doctor.Since he often put the stetho on his neck,the gullible locals also believed him.Police seized the unlawfully stored medicines worth of over one lakh and medical equipment from the clinic in presence of witnesses and prepared the seizure list.A case was registered and Sarkara was arrested and produced in court today evening.Further investigation is underway to ascertain for how long the accused was operating as a fake doctor,said the IIC,besides the genuinity of the Aadhar and Voter I card.The irony is that,despite practicing for several years,the health department kept mum over such fake doctors.However the IIC said all such clinics under the jurisdiction of Marine PS would be verified.
