Bhanjanagar:The special drive against criminals,particularly for illegal arms in Ganjam district continues as Bhanjanagar police has arrested 9 more criminals with 5 guns and 16 live bullets,2 toy guns and sharp weapons today.Basing on the allegations of extortion and other crimes a special team has been formed led by Bhanjanagar SDPO,Sujit kumar nayak,IIC Jibanananda jena,has conducted several areas.During the raids,yesterday night,police got a tip off about the presence of a group in the premises of Tarini temple at jilundi,on the outskrit of Bhanjanagar town.Seeing the police,the group tried to flee,but were overpowered by police,said Ganjam SP,Subhendu patra.The nine arrested persons are history sheeters and the seized firearm includes two 9mm pistol,2 single shot,one 7.62 mm pistol,two sharp weapons and two toy guns,the SP said.The arrested criminals has been identified as Badal Sahu(18),Anil Behera(30),Dibyam Arukha(19),Sangram Keshari Bhuyan(31),Tukuna Patra(37), Sanatan Pradhan(23),Braja Mohan Sahu(25),Sunil Kumar Sabata(30)and Saroj das(23).While 8 of them are locals ,Saroj hails from Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar,the SP added.This is the third large scale seizure in the district said the SP adding that with today’s development, a total of 47 persons have been arrested so far and 30 illegal guns and 112 bullets have been seized.The special drive will continue and we are hopeful of seizing more number of illegal firearms and arrest the accused persons.Our investigation is on to ascertain the surce of procurement of firearms,the SP added.
