Cleanliness Drive at Mahendragiri Hill Station by NSS unit, Centurion University

Paralakhemundi, (Tarini Prasad Panda): The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Centurion University of Technology and Management, Paralakhemundi, organised a cleanliness drive at the Mahendragiri Hill Station on January 9, 2026, with the objective of promoting environmental cleanliness and sustainable tourism.
The programme was carried out by a team of 22 NSS student volunteers under the supervision of Dr. Bishnuprasad Dash, NSS Programme Officer. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Sibaram Sabat, Forester; Ms. Kabita Rani Devi, Forest Guard and forest officials Chintamani Sabar, Satya Swaraj Mohanty, Rankamani Baria and Kailash Naik. Representatives from the local community also participated, including Mr. Sanyasi Bhuiyan, President of the Eco Development Club; Mr. Bhaskar Mandal, Treasurer; Mrs. Ambika Nayak, Sarpanch of Puttar village; Mrs. Kumari Karji, Sarpanch of Engarsing village; and social worker Mr. Ram Chandra Naik.

The cleanliness drive commenced at Burkhat village and was subsequently conducted near the Mahendragiri Eco Resort and the hill station area close to the Kunti Temple. NSS volunteers, forest department personnel and local villagers actively took part in the cleaning activities.

The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness about environmental hygiene, instil a sense of responsibility among youth towards conservation of natural resources, and encourage responsible behaviour among visitors. Mahendragiri, known for its rich ecological, cultural and spiritual significance, attracts a large number of tourists, making such initiatives vital for preserving its natural beauty.

On the occasion, students and villagers, in collaboration with forest department officials, also organised an awareness rally, raising slogans in support of a plastic-free environment and spreading the message of keeping the Mahendragiri region clean and safe.
