NSS Unit Centurion University Encourages Society Against Addiction

Paralakhemundi,(Tarini Prasad Panda): In a noteworthy step towards building an addiction-free and prosperous society, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), Paralakhemundi, successfully organized a “Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan” awareness programme on 21st January 2026 at Village Barlanda, Kharasanda, Paralakhemundi. The programme intended to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and inspire the community, especially youth, to adopt a drug-free healthy lifestyle.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Rajashree Jena, NSS Programme Officer, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Paralakhemundi with active participation from NSS student volunteers and villagers. The programme commenced with an awareness session addressed by Dr. Deepak Kumar Pradhan, Medical Officer In-charge, CHC Gurandi, Paralakhemundi and Ms. Supriya Behera, Drugs Inspector, Paralakhemundi with support from Ms. Mamata Padhi, Public Health Extension Officer, CHC Gurandi, Paralakhemundi. The speakers emphasized the physical, mental, social and economic consequences of drug and substance abuse and emphasized the importance of early prevention, community livelihood and informed decision-making. One of the foremost highlights of the programme was a street drama performed by NSS volunteers which commendably portrayed how addiction progressively abolishes individuals, families and society leaving a strong emotional impact on the audience. To broaden awareness, the programme concluded with a Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan awareness rally, where NSS volunteers marched together through the village, raising slogans and spreading messages of unity and responsibility in the fight against addiction to alcohol, tobacco, drugs and inhalants which are budding as serious threats to the physical, mental and social well-being of youth individuals.

The NSS Unit, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Paralakhemundi, through this initiative, reiterated its commitment to social responsibility and community building, inspiring citizens to work collectively towards a drug-free and healthier society.
