FOREST SLEUTHS UNEARTH HIDDEN PIASAL TIMBER WORTH RS 2 LAKH

Paralakhemundi,(Tarini Prasad Panda): In a resolute stride against the dark undercurrents of timber smuggling, the vigilant Forest Department of Gajapati scripted a decisive success by seizing a concealed cache of precious Piasal wood valued at over Rs 2 lakh in the verdant stretches of Mohana block.
Acting upon credible intelligence and under the astute direction of Divisional Forest Officer K. Nagaraju, a joint team led by Mohana Range Officer Laxmi Prasad Bisoi and Chandragiri Range Officer Rupak Pradhan descended upon the forested terrain near Yuva village under Jarau panchayat on the evening of April 14. The operation unfolded like a well-orchestrated pursuit, culminating in the discovery of timber stealthily hidden amidst the wilderness, awaiting illegal transit.
The seized Piasal logs, symbols of nature’s silent bounty, were allegedly stockpiled by unscrupulous elements engaged in clandestine trade. Their recovery stands as a testament to the department’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the district’s invaluable forest wealth.
With the echoes of chainsaws now challenged by the call of conservation, the Forest Department has intensified its investigation, tightening the noose around those who dare to plunder nature’s treasure. Swift action is underway to bring the culprits to justice and reinforce the shield protecting Gajapati’s green legacy.
