Paralakhemundi,(Tarini Prasad Panda): In a dramatic dawn operation that underscores the relentless resolve of law enforcement, Gajapati Police struck a decisive blow against the clandestine corridors of illegal ganja trade, seizing contraband worth over Rs 50 lakhs from the dense green folds of the district’s forested terrain.
With the tightening noose of sustained crackdowns, ganja mafias—once emboldened by the remoteness of the region—now find themselves on the back foot, attempting to spirit away their illicit harvests to distant markets in pursuit of higher profits. Sensing this tactical shift, the district police have sharpened their vigil, intensifying patrolling and surveillance across all vulnerable pockets.
Acting on precise intelligence received on the evening of April 20, indicating the concealment of ganja for imminent transportation beyond Odisha’s borders, a swift and strategic operation was launched. Under the astute supervision of SDPO R. Udayagiri, Rakesh Kumar Sahu, the dedicated team of Adava Police Station ventured into the dense forest stretches between Athabakhara village and the dam site in the early hours of April 21.
What unfolded was a significant breakthrough—hidden amidst nature’s silence lay a massive cache of contraband. A staggering 5 quintals and 20 kilograms of ganja was unearthed and seized. However, sensing the approaching footsteps of law, the accused managed to flee the scene, leaving behind their illicit consignment.
A case has been registered under Adava PS Case No. 82/2026, and investigations are vigorously underway. The police are leaving no stone unturned to trace and apprehend those involved in this unlawful nexus.
In this high-stakes battle against narcotics, Gajapati Police once again reaffirms their unwavering commitment—to cleanse the soil of illegal cultivation and trafficking, and to uphold the rule of law with unflinching determination.
