Dhenkanala,(YNS):an adult male elephant, approximately 25–30 years of age, was found dead near Bompa Village under Hindol Range of Dhenkanal Forest Division.
Upon receipt of the information, Forest Department officials immediately reached the site, secured the area, and initiated the prescribed investigation. A post-mortem examination was conducted by the veterinary team as per the Standard Operating Procedure in the presence of Forest Department officials. Officials of the Electricity Department were also present during the inspection and jointly examined the site.
Based on the preliminary findings of the spot inspection and post-mortem examination, the death is suspected to have been caused by a lightning strike. During the joint inspection, no evidence indicating electrocution, such as contact with electrical infrastructure or other signs suggestive of electrical injury, has been observed. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after receipt of the final post-mortem opinion and completion of all technical and departmental inquiries.
