Berhampur:A 27 year old youth,a convicted lifer and was on parol beaten to death by his elder brother in Badapali village under Kodola PS limits in Ganjam district.The deceased has been identified as Sambhunath rout @ Papun.Sources said two years ago Sambhu,a criminal minded youth was involved in several crimes in the area and was convicted in a rape and murder casein 2022.Due to the criminal activities of Sambhu,his mother committed suicide.Recently he was released on parole and often quarrelled with his elder brother Kailash and sister in law demanding share from the family property.Yesterday at around 10 pm,Sambhu in a inebirated state reached the house and started absuing his brother.Aggrieved with his frequent distrubance,Kailash reportedly in a fit of rage has tied his hands and legs and beat him up with a lathi.However he stopped beating when there was no movement in Sambhus body.Soon Kailash with others took Sambhu to Kodola hospital,where he was declared brought dead.Today morning Kailash reached the police station and surrendered after narating the incident.Police registered a case and sent the body to MKCG MCH for autopsy.Besides arrested kailash and detained his wife Alaka for questioning,said IIC Subash chandra behera.Meanwhile growing number of murders has worried the elites in the district.It was felt that the criminals has lost fear on police.While criminals beacme active in rural areas of ganjam,the district recorded 22 murders during last three months.On the 1st day of 2025,a clash took place at ODRP colony under Rambha PS,where a tenant Basant parida was killed.In janurary it self one Surendra sabar under K,Nuagaon PS limits and Laxmi mohanty under Aska PS limits killed brutaly.in February one Damburu swain was murdered under Badagsda PS limits and on Holi day T.Ramchandra patra was murdered in Berhampur.One each youths were killed under Buguda PS limits and Kabisuryanagar PS limits.In 3rd week of March,three persons including a father and son duo were killed under Badagada PS.During the last week of March three persons killed in a span of 48 hours,one Sumant mohapatra was murdered under Purusotompur PS limits,one Laxminarayana paikray was killed under Kabisuryanagar PS limits and a youth was killed in Berhampur for a dispute over Danda nacha.In the first week of current month a man Rabindra das killed under Khalikote PS limits.Among the deceased persons,some are history sheeters,what has indicated that the public insted of deposing confidence on police,took the law into their own hands.No doubt in most of the murder cases,police arrested the accused persons,but should prepare a startegy to instill fear among the criminalsopined the elites.
