MOTHER, SON DIE OF SNAKEBITE

Paralakhumundi,(Tarini Prasad Panda): A mother and her seven-year-old son died after being bitten by venomous snakes while asleep at Kadamatal village under Rayagada block in Gajapati district on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Lalita Badarait and her son, Amit. Lalita’s husband, Ajay Badarait, and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter had a narrow escape.
According to reports, Lalita woke up screaming after being bitten by a venomous snake. Hearing her cries, Ajay rushed to her and found two venomous snakes inside their house. With the help of neighbours, he immediately shifted Lalita and their unconscious son to the Rayagada Community Health Centre.
As their condition deteriorated, doctors referred them to the District Headquarters Hospital at Paralakhemundi. However, both succumbed during treatment.
The double tragedy has plunged Kadamatal village and the surrounding area into mourning. After post-mortem examination, the bodies were taken to their native village, where the last rites were performed amid grief.
