Mohona:As many 26 cops including couple of officers injured and five police vehicles damaged,following a ganja seizure in Pidiari village under Yuba panchayat of Mohona block in Gajapati district.Sources said,on a tip off that huge quantity of ganja stored in the village,police officers of Mohona,Adava,R.Udayagiri,with two platoons of police raided the village late night on yesterday.They seized around 21 quintal of ganja and sent in a vehicle to Mohona PS.Later the raiding party reportedly seized another ganja of over 50 quintal and loaded in four vehicles.But on the way they were detained by a mob.Though there was a little protest during the seizure,but the ganja traders united the locals and detained the four vehicles by placing chopped off trees on the road.Before police realises the situation,the mob attacked the police party with lathi and also pelted stones.The mob also took away the seized ganja from the police vehicles,besides snatched the mobile phone of the cops.Since the mob cordoned the area,the raiding party confined there from 4 am today till 11 am.Later the mob released the cops following repeated persuation by the detained police.Soon the injured cops were taken to Chandragiri hospital for treatment.Gajapati SP,Jatindra kumar confirmed the injury of cops and damage of vehicles.Panda who is now present at Mohona PS to take stock of the situation,said a case has been registered against the attackers and stern action will be taken.Massive police deployed in the area.Attack on cops by ganja traders are not new in Gajapati.Around six months back a police party was attacked while seizing ganja in Mohona area.Even,a mob supporters of ganja mafias ransacked the Adava police during 2022.
