Brahmapur Submerged in Just 2.5 Hours Due to Kalbaisakhi Rain

Brahmapur:  A heavy Kalbaisakhi storm on Saturday afternoon caused severe waterlogging in Brahmapur city and its surrounding areas within just 2.5 hours of continuous rainfall. Gandhinagar and Brajanagar recorded 320 mm of rainfall, while Rangeilunda received 74 mm, and Chhatrapur recorded 62.8 mm. The intensity of the rain led to severe flooding in low-lying areas, disrupting transportation and daily activities. The storm brought strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning, causing trees to collapse onto roads, creating panic among residents. The disruption also led to power outages and traffic congestion in multiple areas. Reports indicate that Ganjam district received a total of 955.5 mm of rainfall across 24 stations, with an average of 38.22 mm. Other affected regions include Aska (26.2 mm), Buguda (25 mm), Purushottampur (19 mm), and Kabisuryanagar (15.7 mm). However, Hinjalikatu, Sanakhemundi, Bhanjanagar, and Sorada recorded minimal rainfall. Authorities have issued precautionary warnings, advising people to remain indoors and avoid waterlogged areas.
