Gunupur:Property worth of over one crore reportely destroyed in a massive fire brokeout in the Computer Science Department’s main building at GIET University in Gunupur of Rayagada district today.The fire erupted suspectedly due to short circuit in power supply in the five storied building,at around 1.45 pm in the computer science department.The blaze destroyed expensive computers and other critical equipment,reducing much of the department’s assets to ashes.However no one was injured in the fire mishap said Dean(ADMIN)Dr.N.V.J.Rao,adding that 14 computer set with tables,ceiling server room worth of over Rs one crores.On being informed,two fire tenders from the Gunupur Fire station rushed to the scene and successfully extinguished the flames after a grueling two-hour effort. The cause of the fire remains under investigation,the preliminary findings has indicated to a possible short circuit,said fire officer Rajanikant gouda.However,the details of the damage is yet to be assessed,he added.Though no casualties have been reported, but the incident has raised concerns about safety measures in the university’s infrastructure.An indepth enquary demanded to ascertain the exact cause and prevent future occurrences.
