Berhampur: Over fifty families of Pratapur village under Baradabili panchayat in Dharakote block of Ganjam district has met IG(SR)Niti Sekhar today.Led by Dalit mahasabha,Ganjam district unit,the families told the IG that,they were driven out of the village since more than a month by some influential persons.They said,the persons exploit the innocent villagers and compelled them to obey them.If any family disobeys,the persons convenes kangaroo court and imposes fine and if the victm fails to pay,the family faces social boycott.The villagers said,last month the scheduled caste people in the village constructed a community hall in their street.The influential group opposed the construction and also imposed fine of Rs 5001/-per family.Since the poor families unable to pay the fine,they were driven out of the village and staying in other villages.The dalit mahasabha unit came to know about the misery of the people of Pratapur and brought tem to the IG office said Sangram nayak secretary of the mahasabha.After hearing their ordeal,the IG directed the Dharakote police to initiate necessary action.Following the direction of IG,Dharakote police asked the families over phone to come to the PS tomorrow said social worker Bhalachandra sadangi.
